The Best Scary Movies to Watch High

Smoking weed and watching movies go together like Freddy and Jason, Chucky and Tiffany, or Clarice Starling and Hannibal Lecter. You see where this is going, right? It’s the spookiest time of year and what better way to celebrate than with a quick trip to Standing Akimbo and a scary movie! Now obviously, not every stoner is a fan of horror and conversely, not every horror fan is a stoner. Fortunately, the horror genre is stacked with different films to keep you on the edge or your seat or laughing into your popcorn. We know it’s a bit of a black hole trying to choose a movie sometimes, especially when you’re stoned. So, take our word for it and settle in for a spooky and stoney night with this list of the best scary movies to watch while you’re high.

The Conjuring

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. Paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, work to help the Perron family overcome a dark satanic haunting that is targeting the family wherever they go. The Conjuring is said to be based on real life events making this even more terrifying. Speaking honestly, unless you have balls of steel, we recommend watching this with a friend.

It Chapter One (2017)

Some horror fans maintain the original is better, but honestly who doesn’t love a good remake? And that’s exactly what this is… a good remake. Pennywise is by far the most disturbing clown in the history of clowns, and we would argue he’s scarier than ever in this movie versus the original. Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel, the movie tells the story of seven children from Derry, Maine who are terrorized by an eponymous being, only to face their own personal demons in the process. Feeling like a marathon? We also recommend checking out the sequel, It- Chapter Two, when the kids come back to Derry 27 years later to once again face their demons and defeat Pennywise once and for all.

Us

This movie isn’t as much horror as it is timely and suspenseful. This 2019 film is written and directed by Jordan Peele and follows the Wilson family as they are attacked by a group of menacing dopplegangers. The lead actress, Lupita Nyong’o plays her role as “Red” with such precision, it’s impossible to not be spooked by this scary movie.

This Is The End

What’s more entertaining than watching Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill and their stoner friends attempt to survive the apocalypse? Literally nothing. If the world ended tomorrow, that would totally be the crew we’d seek to bake with to watch it all burn. This movie is definitely categorized as a comedy-horror, emphasis on the comedy. If you’re burnt out on spooky films and need some comedic relief, look no further, this movie definitely has some scary undertones but is absolutely hilarious.

Bettlejuice

We will never not watch Beetlejuice every October. Say it thrice, and roll a few extras because this movie is just so much fun. Michael Keaton plays an obnoxious poltergeist in this Tim Burton classic featuring Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin, and Wynona Rider. Smoke some sassy sativas, and keep it light with this amazing cult classic.

Halloween (1978)

You didn’t actually think we were going to skip this one, did you? We know they just released a remake, but this is a classic and we think the original is so much better. The plot tells of a mental patient, Michael Myers, who was committed to a sanitarium for murdering his teenage sister on Halloween night when he was just six years old. Fifteen years later, he escapes and returns to his hometown where he stalks a babysitter and he friends.
